  1. AtoB and BtoA, both written by Randy Lilly ( N3ET ), are very useful for
  2. sending binary files (such as word processor files, object files, and IFF
  3. picture or Music files) via the packet mail forwarding system. Although I
  4. have made icons for them, the icons don't call the program.. Use CLI by
  5. typing:
  6.             BtoA <return>
  7. and
  8.             AtoB
  9.  
  10. then enter file names ect... as requested.
  11.  
  12. Use BtoA to prepare a file, then send the resultant file.  The receiving
  13. station then uses AtoB to derive the original file.  By using this method,
  14. executable files (such as "stack"..), word processor files which contain
  15. binary (Scribble! ...), digital audio samples, and (IFF or any other format)
  16. pictures can be sent over the packet mail forwarding system!

  18. I reccommend that you send another separate message to the distant station in
  19. which you describe the file and any parameters it uses, along with the file
  20. size of the file you're sending, and the size of the file they'll end up with
  21. after performing a AtoB on the file.

  23. If the file is large, consider using a program such as Arc ( also on this
  24. disk, this directory ) to compress the file before conversion
  25. to ASCII.  The receiving station would also have to use Arc (or what ever
  26. compression program used) to un-compact the file after using BtoA.
